atai is seeking an experienced computational or cognitive neuroscientist to join our R&D team. The candidate will have expertise in clinical electroencephalography (EEG), and ideally also functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) experience, coupled with excellent analytical and computational skillset to explore dynamic neural network analyses. This neural network data will allow the investigation of complex cognitive systems to evaluate and optimize therapy administration. Responsibilities:

  • Support the R&D clinical science team in developing study designs to assist in protocol writing
  • Research brain-based biomarkers to inform the design and implementation of clinical trials particularly with EEG and fNIRS and other brain imaging techniques
  • Explore and identify optimal symptomatic/behavioral/therapeutic outcomes linked to brain-based surrogate endpoints for the compound
  • Assist in developing the rationale behind integrating clinically meaningful biomarkers for atai’s assets in development
  • Develop the data analytics pipeline for the biomarker research station and run the analyses to answer study hypotheses
  • Seek out and liase with a network of key opinion leaders to inform our clinical trial decisions
  • Report to the Clinical Science Director and support R&D team led by atai’s Chief Medical Officer
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams including preclinical, regulatory and CMC R&D, digital therapeutics and business development, and advise as needed with proposals to help the strategic growth of the atai portfolio, specifically regarding neuroimaging devices
  • Managing and mentoring interns
  • Participate in internal educational initiatives as a presenter and coordinator of educational events that include external speakers
  • Contribute to the creation of a publication plan and authoring select abstracts for congresses and articles for scientific publications

Qualifications:

  • PhD in neuroscience, computational neuroscience/neurobiology, or cognitive psychology
  • Completed post-doctoral fellowship at an academic university
  • Clinical research experience with psychiatric patients, ideally with major depression, anxiety disorders, and/substance abuse
  • Strong background and experience in conducting EEG clinical experiments and computational neuroscience, including developing data processing streams (such as multi-modal data integration, signal processing, and machine learning) to understand brain network dynamics
  • Comprehensive understanding of designing and conducting human subject’s research, including in-depth understanding of research design and methodology
  • Research experience and publication record in the understanding of the neural basis of mood and/ anxiety disorders
  • Passion for using emerging digital and neurotechnologies
  • Research experience with in vivo imaging (fNIRS, sMRI, fMRI, ASL, DTI, MRS), preferred
  • Experience working in industry/biopharmaceutical company, preferred
  • Strong motivation to learn, and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems
  • Work independently as well as part of a close team, demonstrate strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing abilities
  • Good organization and detail-orientation, excellent time management and project management skills
  • Eligible to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship
